The Estonian Woodworking Industry Development Cluster´s study visit to Japan

From 6th to 15th April the Estonian Woodworking Industry Development Cluster was on a study visit to Japan (Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe Tokyo). The aim was to meet with relevant counterparts in Japan and to map potential business opportunities in timber and woodworking industry. In addition to the members of the Estonian Woodworking Industry Development Cluster, the delegation also included representatives from the Estonian Wooden Houses Association, the Estonian Log Houses Association, Swedbank and the Estonian Employers’ Confederation.

Estonian Cell – Europe’s Largest Producer of Aspen Bleached-Chemi-Thermo-Mechanical Pulp

Estonian Cell AS is part of the international Heinzel Group that ranks with its subsidiaries Zellstoff Pöls AG, Laakirchen Papier AG and Raubling Papier GmbH among the largest producers of market pulp and magazine paper in Central and Eastern Europe. Estonian Cell AS, located in Kunda, Estonia, is an eco-friendly pulp mill - a greenfield project, which began operating in 2006. The investment for constructing the mill is one of the biggest foreign investments in Estonia within original investment value of 176 million euros. The mill turns wood into high quality pulp, which Estonian Cells clients can use to make different types of paper products.

Graanul Invest is a private company whose headquarters is based in Tallinn, Estonia. The company's main fields of activities include wood pellet production, development of heat and energy solutions, trading of solid biomass products and forestry. Regardless of the fact that company is quite young, established in 2003, it has become the biggest wood pellet producer in Europe, one of the largest forestland owners in Estonia and one of the biggest independent renewable energy producers in the Baltic Sea region.

The company's two sawmills are the fastest and most efficient sawmills in the Baltics, intended to produce timber for variety of uses. The company produces over 700 different products for the customers all over the world. Earthquake proof houses in Japan, houses, scaffolding and furniture in North-Africa, building constructions in Europe, window scantlings and door components, gluelam beams for buildings and bridges manufactured in Estonia and exported – just few areas where their sawn timber is used.
